August Theme: Let’s Hear It For The Boys
Location: Rush Ranch, Eastern Oregon
Wx: Hot
If you haven’t heard of my debacle with Jake the cat and a skunk, be happy you haven’t heard me moan and groan about that. It involved water, a”de-skunking” recipe, scratching and wrestling. But we have both survived. We shall overcome.
The sunflowers fill the valley below, an awesome sight. Miles of them. The farmers are going them for seed and oil. I can’t wait for the blooms to come on, because my daughter and I love to photograph the fields. Now that the flowers have bloomed, the farmers stop watering them so that they will spend their energy making their seeds. When the back of a sunflower turns golden brown, the seeds are ready for harvest. The flower is called a “plate”, and the harvester drives along with a special attachment that looks like a bunch of forks. The farmers harvest the plates, and the rest of the plant is so dry that it just explodes in dust. The farmers have to ensure that they blow the dust off of their equipment every day, or even every few hours. If you are interested in the process, here is a great website of information, and a few videos of the harvest. This photo below was taken by my daughter just yesterday.

The Scrap Designers theme for the month of August is “Let’s Hear It for the Boys”. I only raised daughters, so I don’t have much experience with boys. I just tried to think boy colors and see what I could come up with. I think that you will really be pleased with some of the OTHER designer’s kits that you can download from the blog roll below my kit. Please stop by their blogs and give them some love and encouragement.

Another wonderful kit, boys can be hard to design for! And I love your sunflowers! When I lived in North Dakota I used to watch them follow the sun, so amazing!

Thanks so much for your gifts! Haha on the cat and skunk! It’s times like that I am glad our cats are indoor cats and don’t venture outside. I also appreciate the sunflower pics! A dear friend of mine passed away in April. Her favorite flowers were sunflowers, so every time I see a picture of one, it reminds me of Charlene. *Sniff.*
