July 1st Free Downloads

For those of you waiting (and waiting….) for me to update all of my previous year 2018 links, I think I have them all moved to the new server.  All of them.  Please let me know if you have any issues with the 2018 links.

I have started on 2017 links………….egads!

Hey, if you haven’t checked it out already, you may be interested in the Facebook group:  Share Your Digi Scrap Freebies.  If the link doesn’t take you there accurately, just search for the group name.  Almost daily some talented designer is sharing free designs for you to download.  You’ll have the opportunity to discover new designers, too.

What a fantastic weather day it is!  In the mid 70’s, sunny, gentle breeze.  Perfect.  Makes me wish that the sun would never go down on this day.   It’s a good day to get centered and grounded within, pull close to friends and family and ignore the din and noise of politics and world affairs. It makes me tired and sad sometimes, the “outside” world, so I try to keep my focus and love simply on my circle of influence.

There is a “She Shed” going up at the Rush Ranch.  A small affair – nothing fancy, but will be handy as it is positioned right by the garden.  It will be great for starting new seedlings and storage of garden supplies.  It will have a front porch, and will actually have a somewhat nice view of the valley floor, below.  Here are a few photos.

On the animal front, success has been achieved, at long last.  We have finally – after almost a YEAR of unsuccessful attempts – figured out how to feed Douglas, the dog.  I know that may sound weird, but hear me out.  As you may remember, Douglas is a trained hunting dog, a German Shorthair, whose owner passed away in August of last year.  Douglas had nowhere else to go, so we adopted him.  He would eat his dry food, which we keep out and available 24/7.  But he would eat a can of dog food at dinner time for his prior owner.  We were feeding him the same kind, but often he would appear to just not want it. I thought that perhaps a lot of it was that he was grieving.  I would hold his bowl for him and tell him what a good boy he was, etc….. we would have some success, but it was never right.  Finally the other day we were talking about our old friend, and how he fed Douglas.  He would sit by Douglas in a chair, and smoke a cigarette while Douglas ate.   So we joked about sitting in the chair and taking up smoking.  But finally my husband said, can it be that simple?  To sit next to Douglas in a chair, as he eats?  And it was!  And it is!  We are such a pair of lugnuts, my husband and I.  To take months to figure that out?  Duh.

Dealing with a bout of bronchitis this week.  Husband finally asked me to go to the doctor’s to check it out, so now I am on meds and should be better by the time you read this.  My family got tired of hearing me say “It’s just a chest cold!  I’ll treat it with hot lemon water and honey!…..” and then cough my lungs out.  Are you like me?  Hate to go to the doctor’s, and wait until the last minute to take care of yourself?  It’s an interesting psychological mindset –  Do we think that we are not important enough to seek immediate attention?  Do we try to convince ourselves that we are too busy?  Do we think that it is silly to inconvenience medical staff over a silly cold?  I don’t know why I do the things I do – being human is complicated.  I just know that, in my attempt to be kind to others, I must remember to be kind to myself, as well.

Scrappin’ Your Heart Out – June

Design Team:  Scrappin’ Your Heart Out
Design Theme:  Gateway to Summer
Designer:  The Rush Ranch

My husband has started building a little greenhouse/shed out by the garden.  I am staying out of the way while the building is going on.  My job is to deliver sandwiches and cold drinks.  Oh – and the occasional “Great job, Honey!”  I think this tiny building will be used more for storage of his various tools, than anything else, because there doesn’t appear to be any windows for sunlight in the design.  I think this is like the joke about the man that buys his wife a fishing pole for her birthday, even though she doesn’t fish?  So he is building a windowless greenhouse…….hummmmm.  But, it keeps him active and busy, and that is good for him.  He turns 74 years old this year and has not yet started to slow down.  The love of my life.

You may have already heard that our dogs – two of the three – thought it an excellent idea to chase a skunk.  Ugh.  Douglas and Abigail were immediately put into the shower, scrubbed with Dawn dishwashing liquid and hydrogen peroxide to break up the skunk oil, and then scrubbed again.  They still have a slight scent, but we will just have to tough it out for a few days until the scent finally dissipates.  Of all the things that they could chase around here, they choose the skunk.  And most skunk families have their babies by now, so you don’t mess with the mom and her babies.

My daughter was driving home from work late last evening, and saw a tiny kitten on the side of the road, playing and chasing bugs in the tall grass.  She stopped to get it, but it wouldn’t come to her – it took off in the field, probably back to its mom.  So our mission is to keep on checking in that area, to find that family of kits.  Barn cats are common in a farming community, but I would much rather they be OUR barn cats because we put out feed every day for our one barn fella.  I haven’t been able to tame him, but I keep working on it. People need to take better care of each other, and their animals.

Scrap Designer’s Blog Train

Design Team:  Scrap Designer’s
Design Theme:  Here Comes The Sun
Designer:  The Rush Ranch

Well. Interesting visit to see MIL. She fell the day before we got there. She didn’t break anything but she got a concussion and deep tissue contusions. When the emergency room gave her a CT scan for the concussion, they found a tumor in her brain. I’ve been with her for two days since that diagnosis, and she is a remarkable woman. She is just going to let it take its course. No surgery, no chemo.  Just let it ride. She is in no pain. It does impact her balance a bit, and some thinking when she tries to think of a word to use. I admire her decision, and I would do the same. She says that she has lived a good life. At age 86, she has buried three wonderful husbands. I get such a kick out of her. I love her and admire her fortitude and faith.   No matter what, God is good.

The theme for the blog train this month is “Here Comes the Sun”.  Such beautiful and bright colors!  Please visit the other designers listed in the blog train, below my downloads.
