Guiding Star

It’s late.  Almost midnight.  The wind is blowing the stars around tonight, not to mention every loose thing sitting on my porch.  Intermittent power, so I better get this posted before I lose my internet service.
I stood outside for a bit before I went to bed, just to see if the sky was clear enough to get a glimpse of the meteor shower – but it seems with every celestial event, I have a cloud-covered sky.  I have a star scope, but don’t get to use it very often.
I’m writing this as I snuggle under quilts on my bed.  Douglas the dog is asleep between us, and twitches every so often as he dreams.  Hubby is asleep.
Tomorrow I have an annual checkup with my dentist.  I am hoping for a clean bill of health, so that he can notify my orthopedic surgeon that all is well and I’m ready for my full knee replacement.  I had my medical checkup and tests this past Tuesday, and got the go-ahead from my GP.  Have you had knee replacement surgery?   What was your experience?  Any advice for me?
daisy_600pxI have been working on handmade projects for Christmas.  ALMOST done with a shawl.  My cat, Princess Daisy, insists on sitting in my arms as I crochet, so I don’t make progress as fast as I would like.  I told my husband that I need a kangaroo pocket on my shirt, to put her in.  She seems to need extra loving and touching these past few weeks.

Need to finish up a baby blanket, too.  I’m running behind this year!  My husband will take a quick three-day trip to Alaska next Wednesday, so hoping that I can use the time to finish up everything.  It’s tough when you have seven kids and fourteen grandkids.  LOTS of projects to accomplish.
Here are my designs for the We Believe Blog Train.  I apologize for the fact that a lot of it is just extractions rather than designs.  You are going to love all of the beautiful kits from my fellow designers!  The blog train role is at the end of my download links.

rr_dec18-frost_mouseMerry Christmas and have a wonderful holiday with friends and family.  Remember, during this special season, to do something kind for a stranger – Money in a parking meter, spare change in the Salvation Army can, pushing grocery cart baskets back to the store – you get it.  Thank you.

  1. Thank you so very much for this gorgeous kit. It is truly inspiring. I wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas, and a most Blessed New Year. I hope and will pray all goes well with your surgery. I will be watching for an update as I too have been told I need my knee replaced. (However, I must wait for a few years as my age does not qualify) I am sure God will take good care of everything. Merry Christmas!!!

  2. Oh Sunny, I’ve been a big fan of your designs for a long time, and I think you’ve outdone yourself here! The stars on the patterned papers are gorgeous. I love the stained glass effect on some of the magi elements, but all the elements are so beautiful. Such a stunning kit, thank you!

Good luck with your knee surgery. I have a few friends who’ve had it and said it was a rough go at first but worth it. I hope you get all your projects done! Merry Christmas, but I’m sure I’ll see you in the forums before then!

  3. My knee replacement let me get rid of the feeling I was going to fall due to lack of support. I recommend you continue all the exercises for life. Hope your insurance covers the expenses better than mine did and I had 2 insurances…one through work and one other I had personally. Also recommend you take pain meds nurse asks if you need it. I have a high tolerance for pain but when the surgical meds wore off I felt I hit a wall of pain all at once. It has been almost 10 years since I had it done. I would do it again for the ability to continue to walk if I have to. Good luck and I will put you in my prayers.

  5. Merry CHRISTmas to you and yours and thanks once again for the lovely freebies! You always create such lovely pieces and beautiful papers! So sorry to hear about the knee replacement, had my right one done in 2004, still doing okay with it, but the left one needs some work, but….not gonna happen until I have NO OTHER CHOICE! I do know that techniques and even the hardware has improved immensely since my surgery, but the REHAB is still the same…LOL! Sending you prayers for a speedy recovery and hoping you get to finish your projects beforehand! Have a marvelous weekend and week ahead! Hugs, Mat

  6. I have never commented on a website before, but strongly wanted to pass on advice about knee replacement. you need to be realistic about results. this is a major life changer, but it requires commitment and lots of hard work. it is NOT the same as a perfect God-issued knee. there are limitations. and the PT exercises are for LIFE. the upkeep is well worth it, Technology has given us this late-life boon, but it is a salty road (sweat & tears) to reclaim your life. best of luck and I truly hope your recovery runs smoothly

  7. Hi Sunny, thank you for the beautiful kit. I have only had a cyst removed from my knee so I am no help to you for advice. Prayers that all goes well. I love your kitty. My cat only wants in my lap if I have a book or my iPad in my lap, isn’t that the way it goes with them. LOL
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  8. Thank you so much for your contributions! It sure sounds like you’ve been busy lately. We had a lot of wind here the last few nights, too. I forgot all about the meteor shower, but I think we were under clouds then as well. I’m in the Tri-Cities, and we’ve been socked in a bit lately. Good luck finishing your projects for Christmas! I’m a crocheter, too, but I (mostly) do small projects like hot pads and scrubbies. That way I can get them done and feel like I’ve accomplished something! I haven’t had the knee replacement surgery, but I know several folks (men and women) who have, and they’ve all been glad they did it. Good luck to you, and Merry Christmas!

  9. Regarding knee replacement surgery: I’ve known several people that have had this or hip replacement surgery done and I think they are all quite pleased with the results. With all of us aging Baby Boomers, Surgeons are getting very good at these operations!

  10. My Mom has had both knees replaced and she did very well, made sure she did her PT. We have a relative who slacked on her pt, it hurt of course, but she never healed well and I remember my Mom saying she didn’t want to be like that. So, I can’t say from personal experience, but the physical therapy and walking will be hard painful work, but well worth the results. Dedicate yourself to take great care of your body, and ask God to help you recover and heal with all of your might. That combined with His Grace, you will be surely Blessed!

  13. I had knee replacement surgery a few years ago and was petrified after hearing all the horror stories. It was not bad at all. The roughest part was the therapy to get the knee to straighten all the way. My therapist, however, does not believe in pushing past the pain limit and was very gentle with me and it all went well. My surgeon told me it would take a year to “own” the knee (i.e., it really is a part of me) and that was right on the money. It feels 500 percent better and is much better than my natural knee. Other than the scar, I would never even know it was not my own knee. DO NOT watch youtube videos on the surgery before the surgery as it will scare you. Good luck, I will be praying for you, and thank you, as always, for your fabulous creations. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
